Technology Awareness and Dissemination of Knowledge towards Rural Industrialization for Community by MGIRI


Prof (Dr) P B Kale, Director, and Dr K R Yadav, Deputy Director (Bio-Processing & Herbal) Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Industrialization (MGIRI), MSME, GOI visited the Amity University, Gurgaon campus.

 Prof. Kale delivered a scientific talk on the “Technology Awareness and Dissemination of Knowledge towards Rural Industrialization for Community”. He gave an excellent presentation on the Technology awareness and thought, exposed the new facets of Rural Industrialization. He discussed that Agriculture is the most prime culture on the planet adopted by human civilization. He disclosed the potential of bio processed & herbal products market turbulent by 2020 under “Make in India” mission.
 Prof. Kale’s presentation outlined concerns about the Gandhian ideology and thought process in dramatic rural growth & sustainability towards home grown innovative product production and routine use from cleaner environment systems to organic food, as well as awareness the lacking among  rural and farming community.

The aim and scope of the session was to upgrade and accelerate the process of rural industrialization for social sustainability, attracting talent to facilitate industries, foster creativity and promote innovation with research and development awareness by dissemination of knowledge towards the  skill development in youth  It covered the technical, scientific strengths of both partners and discussed on platform sharing and capacity building among the partners, Prof Kale offered to set up MGIRI’s TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTER at Amity University Haryana.

As the title of his talk suggests, MGIRI group is operational about the growth of solar energy, bio-processing of Agro and Herbal products, rural crafts, khadi textile, which are alternative  to synthetic products, that pose a threat to human health in future. Even though the adverse effects of chemical exposure are known where regulation is minimal in India and the incidence of cancerous disease is on the rise. He discussed about the rural/crafts engineering and also expressed the potential of Solar Charka and Solar Mills usage in industry & upcoming demand of Solar products in rural India. Prof. Kale raised a concern about the workers economic security and community for the development of a systematic approach to self help program and making them individual entrepreneurs, with an aim to unify physical, chemical and biological energies to better understand our duties towards humanity. He complimented Amity by saying it “Almighty” university and lot has to be done to achieve in common platform to prove the potential of research under “Make in India”. Amity could campaign with all the products and processes under the Rural Industrialization Mission. He sincerely advocated the start up of Agriculture as a separate domain or Amity Institute of Agriculture MGIRI will support for the regulatory clearances & regulatory decisions, if required

In his view rural industrialization is a key concept to achieve height in PM’s “Make in India” program its development is need of the hour in different dimensions to run and get grants for in different disciplines. The interdisciplinary efforts among the academicians, scientist and researchers are required to prove our research and innovation potential. He opened the session for debate to discuss the queries from faculty members from Biotechnology, Engineering and Applied Science domain who actively participated to share their view and concepts with himProf. Kale proposed to write a joint proposal, technology evaluation, product development  in collaboration with MGIRI counterpart to be refereed by him. In the end Prof Kale invited all the AUH leaders, VC, Registrar, Deans and Senior faculty to MGIRI and host a 2 days national workshop on rural industrialization, after the few questions and queries, followed by interactive session. Prof Kale offered the young faculty to come to MGIRI for Trainers to Train program on all the areas like Bio processing & Herbal on Soil testing kit, Microbial testing kit, Panchgavya & Solar LED lamp fabrication. Prof. Kale strongly suggested for developing a sound base for product development and skill development for youth and unemployed in rural and weaker section of society. He emphasized on adoption of five villages to develop the relations with farmers and youth community on this issue of rural industrialization and youth employ ability. He also suggested, attracting better talent and network, in making Amity a wheel spinner in this rural industrialization mission of our PM.Prof Kale and Dr Yadav were felicitated  by giving Amity Memento’s by Maj. Gen. B. S. Suhag, DVC and Prof (Dr) S M Paul Khurana, Dean (Science, Engg. & Technology) .

He assured all possible support on agricultural activities and horticultural inputs. He discussed in detail about Net House for the Vegetable crops. He proposed to support farmers’ training, workshop and seminar at Amity Orchards and Agriculture division. Prof Kale and Dr Yadav discussed about the Agri-inputs in the farms related to bio-treatment and fertigation.

Prof Kale also suggested a centre for Soya Milk, Herbal Tea, Solar Energy Lamp, Rural Craft, Solar Garment Unit as Haryana is one of the cotton growing state, Dogra Metal Craft, Bamboo Craft can also be set up under PMEGP (Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Program) through KVIC & KVIB. This centre will be established with a technical collaboration of MGIRI Wardha and will be the model in this area to enrich the village economy component of rural masses.
In the late evening they stayed back at AUH Guest house and next morning on May 13th they followed their scheduled visit to the Udyog Bhawan at Ministry of MSME GOI, New Delhi and were accompanied by Dr Machiavelli to the Ministry office, at farewell on behalf of Amity family we thanked his maiden visit to AUH and looking forward to fruitful collaboration in future.

AMIFEST 2015 at Amity University Gurgaon

In keeping with tradition at Amity University Gurgaon, the colorful and vibrant annual student’s festival – Amifest 2015 – was held on 20 March 2015. The day-long intra-university festival showcased the myriad talents possessed by the students of AUG, be it in the field of art and culture or in the sphere of technology and engineering. While on the one hand, the festival witnessed excellent performances on the dance stage, supremely talented students regaled the audiences with brilliant singing on the other.

Amifest has been part of the AUG folklore since its inception as a university in 2010. The student’s festival is an extremely important part of the academic calendar as each student looks forward to the events with enthusiasm and interest. The 2015 version of Amifest was a grand success with student’s participation being above expectations in all events convened as part of the festival, including Techfest 2015 organized by the Amity School of Engineering and Technology.

A major highlight of Amifest 2015 was the spectacular fashion fiesta which captured the imagination of the audience like never before. Students of fashion design and technology showcased their creations on the ramp cheered by a massive show of strength from the students. The glittering fashion event was preceded by DJ War which drew tremendous applause from the audience as the multi-faceted character of our students came to the fore. The auditoria rang out with the beats of the bhangra as well as popular Bollywood numbers as the solo and group dance competitions were held enthralling the students and faculty alike.

Technical skills of the students were on full display as they participated with gusto and vigour in the several technical events organized as part of Techfest 2015 including technical paper presentation, circuit designing, LAN gaming, MATLAB and MCAD, as well as paper plane flying. The day-long technical fest engaged the students as previous year’s winners jostled for space with new aspirants. The Tech Gallery with innovative technical and scientific models prepared by the students and faculty was a major highlight of Techfest 2015. The events were well attended and successfully completed.

The field of literature and social issues received a special boost as Poetica 2015 and The Big Debate 2015 were held as part of Amifest. The debate competition saw a fantastic response from the students as eight teams and two individual participants matched their wits on a topic of great relevance, “Freedom of expression with conditions is no freedom”. Close to twenty students recited their self-composed poems and drew tremendous applause from the audience as well as the judges.

A high point of Amifest 2015 was the Nukkad Natak competition which drew on social issues such as women’s safety to engage the audiences with their superlative performances. Live painting sessions with prominent artists from around the country was organized along with an art and sculpture exhibition.

Amifest 2015 ended with the students feeling one with the ethos of Amity University Gurgaon where talent and spirit is celebrated and promoted. The infectious enthusiasm matched the efforts of all faculty coordinators involved in the festival.

Talk on German Energy Transition by Dr Axel Harneit-Sievers of Boell Foundation India

The MAE dept  of Amity Gurgaon organised a talk on German Energy Transition By Dr Axel Harneit-Sievers of Boell Foundation India. He discussed the transition of German energy from nuclear to renewables. German Govt is scarpping its nuclear power programme in favour of renewables.
The Heinrich Böll Stiftung / Foundation (HBF) is the Green Political Foundation from Germany. Headquartered in Berlin and with about 28 international offices, HBF conducts and supports civic educational activities and projects world-wide.
HBF poses as a green think-tank and international policy network, working with governmental and non-governmental actors and focusing on gender equity, sustainable development, and democracy and human rights.
HBF is present in India since 2002, with the HBF India office in New Delhi coordinating the interaction with local project partners. HBF India’s programme activities are focused on three areas: Climate and Resources; Gender & Socio-Economic Policies; and Democracy & Dialogue.

Industrial Visit to Hero Motocorp Ltd. Dharuhera

Purpose of Visit
The visit  of Amity University Gurgaonstudents was intended to help students understand various aspects of manufacturing namely manufacturing operations and assembly lines by providing shop floor experience and interaction with the Engineers, supervisors and operators ofHero Motocorp Ltd. The shop floor experience also enriched the knowledge of the students about industrial safety and various safety practices.
The students were briefed about the various manufacturing operations taking place inside the company from the raw material to the complete manufacturing of the products like casting, welding, machining, painting etc. The students were very enthusiastic to see the full assembly of the bike in front of their eyes. Hero Motocorp is using JIT as a quality improvement technique and students have seen this as their practical experience. The students were also briefed about the job opportunities for graduate engineers within Hero Motocorp. After completion of the visit, lunch was provided within and by the company.
Benefits
  1. Developing better understanding amongst the students of the manufacturing Processes and assembly of products.
  2. Understanding CNC Machines working and production rates.
  3. Sequencing of operations on assembly lines leading to a higher production rate.
  4. Use of quality improvement techniques.
Participation
A total of 38 students (33 MAE + 5 AE) joined the visit and gained experience and industrial exposure.
In 2001, the company achieved the coveted position of being the largest two-wheeler manufacturing company in India and also, the ‘World No.1′ two-wheeler company in terms of unit volume sales in a calendar year. Hero MotoCorp Ltd. continues to maintain this position till date. Hero MotoCorp two wheelers are manufactured across 4 globally benchmarked manufacturing facilities. Two of these are based at Gurgaon and Dharuhera which are located in the state of Haryana in northern India. The third and the latest manufacturing plant is based at Haridwar, in the hill state of Uttrakhand.

Art of write up Scientist papers- FDP for Engineering & Science Department, Amity University, Gurgaon

Department of Computer Science and Engineering has organized an expert lecture by Dr. Sanjay Sen Gupta, Principal Scientist (CSIR) and Editor (JSIR) on “ Roles and activities of CSIR –NISCAIR and art of writing Scientific papers” on dated 15.04.2015. About 60 faculty members from engineering and Sciences department were present to attend this Guest Lecture. The lecture includes different activities of CSIR-NISCAIR such as publications and disseminations of science and technology through different journals and magazines. Dr Sen also address audience about JSIR (Journal of Scientific Industrial Research), the oldest journals of CSIR-NISCAIR which deals in diverse areas of science and technology. He also brings in front the important skills that are required for writing a technical paper. He also pointed out the importance of impact factor, Web of sciences, citations etc. He also gives guidelines how to select suitable journals and how to write good technical research papers. He also motivated the faculty members to pursue quality research in science and Technology.

Amity University Gurgaon organised a seminar on Computational Materials Modelling


computational2The MAE dept of Amity University Gurgaon organised a seminar on Computational Materials Modelling usingBIOVIA Materials Studio. The seminar was delivered by Dr Abhijit Chatterjee of Dassault Systems. Dr Abhijit is currently based at Japan. Mr Suresh Kumar, Country Manager BIOVIA and Dr Anand also accompanied Dr Abhijit.
Materials Studio is a complete modeling and simulation environment designed to allow researchers in materials science and chemistry to predict and understand the relationships of a material’s atomic and molecular structure with its properties and behavior. Using Materials Studio, researchers in many industries are engineering better performing materials of all types, including pharmaceuticals, catalysts, polymers and composites, metals and alloys, batteries and fuel cells, and more.
It was also discussed that the student can go for training in Delhi-NCR where some organisations have already procured Materials Studio.

At the National Education Summit organized by ASSOCHA  (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in  India),on Saturday, 18th April 2015 Amity University Gurgaon has been conferred with the National Education Excellence Award 2015 for being the “Best Higher Education University of the Year”. The award was presented by Dr Ram Shankar Katheria, Hon’ble State Minister of HRD, Government of India in presence of Shri Ravi Wig. Shri Anil Aggarwal, outgoing President ASSOCHAM was also present among the galaxy of industry experts and education leaders from the various Institutes of higher learning and Universities from all over India.
Shri Ravi Wig, Chairman ASSOCHAM India – SAARC Committee in his opening remarks emphasised the need for focusing on employ ability and new business development as part of the University’s preparation of its graduates for the world of industries and the corporates. Shri Wig advocated for a strong academia- industry cooperation in the universities across the countries to nurture the vital industry relevant skills and corporate values in the university campuses. Invited talk on “CYBER SECURITY” by Dr. Cameraon Ahmed

An Invited talk on “CYBER SECURITY” by Dr. Cameraon Ahmed was organized on 20th April 2015 in Amity University Gurgaon. Director ASET along with senior faculty members of ASET attended the talk and the subsequent interaction.
The objective of the talk was to bring in awareness amongst the faculty members on the cyber security in today’s digital environment. Dr. Cameraon talked at length on the subject supporting with number of examples. He also highlighted the ill effects of breaches in the security of information.
Consequent to the above talk an informal interaction was held with the members of senior faculty on the need for incorporating “Cyber Security” issues as a part of the curriculum and for conduct of suitable seminars and workshops.
The interaction closed with a vote of thanks from Maj. Gen. V. K Narang (Retd), Director ASET.

The Dept of MAE at Amity University Gurgaon organized an industry talk on R&D activities of Elofic Industries Ltd. Elofic manufactures oil filters, coolant, lubricants, gaskets etc. Mr Kamlesh Koul, Manager R&D elaborated upon the R&D activities. The company has latest software platforms like PRO E and MDT2 for cost-effective designs and world class filters.
